Lamps of
Achilles De
Khotinsky |
|
Three early carbon filament lamps exist in the collection that are identified as De Khotinsky. Two small lamps are identified by a circular etching on the glass "A. DE KHOTINSKY". Khotinsky is credited with establishing the first incandescent lamp manufacturing facility in Holland in 1885- six years before Philips
in Eindhoven. History concerning the Russian inventor can be found by visiting the links below.

The Electrical Engineer |
December 12th, 1894 |
Captain A. DeKhotinsky, has severed his connection with the Van Choate Electric Co., of Boston, a piece of news which will undoubtedly be pleasing to his many friends and admirers in the scientific world. It is a matter of satisfaction that he has at last broken away from a company which has had an existence for several years, but which has never as yet to our knowledge been able to put out any apparatus. No doubt the Van Choate Co. were in hopes that Captain DeKhotinsky, than whom no better lamp manufacturer lives, would develop a lamp for them, but we hope to see his efforts put forth in a better field and with some company who will not claim the earth, and malign all other existing companies who venture to manufacture apparatus on sound scientific principles. |
