This French lamp bears the etching "UNIS FRANCE". Contrary to popular belief, “UNIS” is not the name of a manufacturer. This is a French quality label that appeared on a wide range of products during the 1900s. These products range from dolls to mechanical slide rules. “UNIS” is an acronym for Union Nationale InterSyndicale and the name was registered in 1916. The name was placed on merchandise to emphasize quality and the trademark was used by a syndicate of various manufacturers in different industries18.
